Bohunt Boycott China petition
- Sarah (14th Dec 2024 - 00:37:06)

Hi

Have been sent this by a friend:

change.org/bohunt-boycott-china

Too right, will most definitely be signing!

"By fostering relations without addressing China's human rights abuses, such as those against Uyghurs and other minorities in Xinjiang, BET risks being seen as complicit or indifferent to these issues. "

I wrote many years ago to Virginia Bottomley MP vis-à-vis China's oppression of Tibetans and the possibility of a boycott.

I got a polite response explaining how important trade relations were with China.

(And this from a Conservative member of parliament.)

So I would manage your expectations if I were you.

Sarah, so easy to virtue signal with meaningless gestures like this. How about boycotting ALL Chinese made products in your life…..I bet you don’t!

Re: Bohunt Boycott China petition

Steve, the petition focuses on a specific issue—educational partnerships—which can lead to meaningful change by addressing academic freedom concerns and reducing undue influence from Chinese authorities. Boycotting all Chinese products is impractical due to global supply chain dependencies. Many essential goods and components are manufactured in China, making a complete boycott challenging and potentially harmful to local economies.

How about doing your RESEARCH and THINK before you reply…..I bet you don’t!

mammal, how disappointing! Thank you for sharing. Perhaps this smaller scale change is more doable though.

So Sarah, rather than supporting something meaningful you choose to petition for something that at best is wishy washy and vague. I guess it’s probably enough though for you to project your virtue to the community whilst actually not having to do anything challenging or difficult.

Sarah,
You say "Steve, the petition focuses on a specific issue—educational partnerships—which can lead to meaningful change by addressing academic freedom concerns and reducing undue influence from Chinese authorities." ...... surely that's what Bohunt is trying to do with it's exchange of staff and students???... create meaningful change and enlightenment?
Your "petition" appears to want to undo that and stop both UK and Chinese students from experiencing each others living, learning and lifestyle, thus broadening each others mindset and understanding each others way of life?..... or have I misunderstood your reasoning.
Seems a little ridiculous and slightly "Woke" in your understanding of both sides reasons for the partnership.

Is the Daily Mail sponsoring this?

Wonder what the local Chinese community in Liphook feel about it ?

History aside maybe take a look at what amnesty international has to say about UK’s treatment of migrants, the institutional racism in the police, the treatment of the wind rush generation etc etc.

Insulting

Oh Sam, whilst I do not agree with the OP I equally think you’re talking (as usual) a load of leftie nonsense about how cruel and racist the UK is (which it isn’t!) I think the abused ‘average’ UK citizen is showing enormous patience and tolerance with the demands of various minority extremists/groups looking to inflict their beliefs, cultures and prejudices on the majority

Here we go, Sam is back yet again!
Sam's 'wondering' what the "Chinese community" of Liphook might feel.

Sam is implying that he/she/it/they knows what people think as they belong to a certain race / nation group.
Sam implies that people in Liphook must belong to a race or nationality in order to fit in with some identity politics classification. Apparently they must follow some sort of victimhood narrative dictated top-down from some sort of a patronising woke academic thinktank / angry student union.

Virtue signallers, hate mongering, racist, hypocritical woke crowd.

Hi Sue,

I couldn’t understand the order of words you threw into the forum but I’ll help you.

1. There are Chinese nationals residing in Liphook.
2. They have children that go to Bohunt
3. Now for a very big word… empathy… imagine going into school and being asked to sign a form to boycott their own origin country?

I suspect you have no idea, you certainly don’t sound like the type that might have lived in another country but if you did am sure you would be upset/annoyed if that country’s school presented you a form to boycott England etc.

Looking forward to you wordy reply
