Are you able to disclose now how much was made by the carnival after costs?

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- Local (15th Jan 2025  13:26:49)

Steve Cooke does it matter how much the carnival made. If they have a little surplus very good if not no problem the carnival is a fun evening for our community.

If it becomes too expensive then we will all have to dig deep to keep it going for the good of liphook, long may it continue.

Hi Steve,

No

Thanks

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- Steve Cooke (17th Jan 2025  16:44:52)

Samuel, may I ask why? I think it is a legitimate question from a resident and business person in the community to know what the financial benefit to our community is from this important event?

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- M (17th Jan 2025  17:30:02)

Steve,
Why not just attend the meeting and ask there?
I can't see why you have such an interest in the amount raised. As long as the committee have covered their costs any monies left, be it ÂŁ1 or ÂŁ1000s, can be distributed as they see fit.
If you have concerns as to the way the carnival is run or administered then again go to the meeting, ask your questions and, better still, join the committee!

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- Local (17th Jan 2025  17:59:40)

Steve Cooke why should the carnival committee tell everyone about their finances. Will you submit your financial position to the public think not . It’s not anybody’s business except the carnival committee. Think you’re trying to stir up trouble.

The carnival is an institution of liphook and hopefully it will continue for many years if it comes to hard times and can’t distribute money from the night then no problem. My thoughts are perhaps they should save the money from collecting for a few years to safeguard the continued carnival. The carnival is something to look forward to especially as times are hard .

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- Dave (17th Jan 2025  20:10:10)

I think Sam’s response is unnecessarily passive aggressive towards a legitimate question. If Sam (and I am making an assumption here) is part of the Carnival management team then he should perhaps be a little more engaging with a member of the local community

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- Joe (18th Jan 2025  05:25:28)

There may well be a simple explanation as to why Sam is not revealing the exact amount to be distributed from the carnival- perhaps the committee have not decided yet on the amount of money to be declared as profit if the accounts have not been finished? There is perhaps sponsorship money yet to arrive. These things all take time.

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- Re (18th Jan 2025  11:14:07)

Have noticed that Steve Cooke and Dave have asked these questions on a previous posts back in November. Wondering what their big interest is . Are they trying to stop the carnival or some other motive . If they have concerns then ask them at the AGM . I really hope the new carnival committee can keep the carnival going they seem to have got to grips with the complexity of running it so hopefully perhaps with good sponsorship it will carry on for years.

- Dave (18th Jan 2025  21:15:28)

I have never contributed to this subject before! I am a big fan of the carnival, I do however find Sam’s response inadequate and flippant.

- Re (19th Jan 2025  11:07:33)

Sorry Dave it was a Dave B inquiring about whether the carnival was going to take place which it did and was very successful.

- Jen (19th Jan 2025  12:17:26)

I too was somewhat taken aback buy the abrupt and dismissive response from Sam to Steve's question. I didn't think the question was unreasonable.

I'm pretty sure that in the past the carnival committee has published the amount it raised at the carnival and the amount given to local charities. It seems odd for it to be kept secret.

I'm assuming that the carnival is not a registered charity and therefore not obligated to make its finances public. I would have thought though that anyone who has donated money to the carnival would be interested in knowing how much was raised, how much the carnival costs to run and whether or not there is anything left over to be donated to charities.

- Life time Resident (19th Jan 2025  13:45:52)

I think Sam has explained it satisfactorily he has said come along to the AGM and all will be revealed donations to charities etc as has happened in the past. Don’t think any more explaining is needed.

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- er (19th Jan 2025  14:38:14)

Can I just point out that Sam did say in his original post that the AGM is on 25th Feb and everyone is invited to attend when they can '...see how your generous support has made a difference in our community'

All seems very clear!

Re: Liphook Carnival Fund Distribution & AGM
- Ian (19th Jan 2025  15:23:24)

Cannot see what the big secret is? Community event, not all the community however will be able to attend so what is the problem disclosing how much OUR event raised? After all, it is not a business so why the apparent over sensitive reaction from the organisers?

[editor]They have clearing set the AGM as the time and place those details will be revealed. That just needs to be respected. [/editor]

Hello all,

First of all, thank you to those who support the Liphook Carnival and the volunteers that organise it, much appreciated.

For clarity, I'm very rarely on this site and was alerted to comments from an oppo of mine, my reasoning for not visiting this site regularly with updates is the lack of transparency with anonymous contributors.

That said... I am happy to talk financials face to face at the AGM meeting and massage anyone's hurty feelings who drew exception to me not giving financials as per our agreement with sponsors.

I'll be the tall handsome one at the bar. đź‘Ť

Kind regards

Sam

Thanks Editor and Sam .

This is to confirm that the money we raise throughout the year, together with funding from our generous sponsors/supporters, enables us to organise the annual carnival.

All donations made on the night of the carnival are donated to local charities and organisations. In 2024 the residents of Liphook and other people from the surrounding areas gave in the region of ÂŁ3,000. This was announced in the winter edition of Liphook Community Magazine, which is delivered to each home in Bramshott & Liphook Parish. These funds will be distributed at our AGM where our Treasurer will present our annual Financial Report.

The carnival committee are thankful for the support of local people to enable the carnival to carry on.
Dianne

- Dave (19th Jan 2025  21:55:02)

So someone helpful from the Carnival Organisers has responded on the Facebook Liphook Community page that the amount raised is ÂŁ3000. BIG well done Liphook.

Sam, why couldn’t you have been as forthcoming? Clearly you were spouting some BS about confidentiality arrangements with sponsors???? All very odd and quite frankly you’ve been unnecessarily awkward and evasive!

Looking forward to 2025 event!

- Phil S (20th Jan 2025  09:14:07)

@Dave, wind your neck in Dave you fragile little man. Clearly the bloke was referring to the inner workings of the carnival and it's financials and NOT the funds raised which was posted on Facebook BY SAMUEL! and in the Liphook magazine. Instead of being a wart on the arse of the community why don't you volunteer for something instead of giving volunteers a hard time.
We can pick this up on 25th in Liphook club where I'll be if you like.... I'll wait.

No wonder the carnival committee does not frequent Liphook talkback with armchair warriors like most here.

Get out your Mums basement and contribute.

- Mark (20th Jan 2025  09:37:49)

Just finished reading the whole thread and I must say some of you are quite pathetic. I don't know Sam too well , only through his recent work on Facebook in bringing life to the carnival after it was voted it was going to close, (all available in the Liphook magazine) he's a lot younger than me and I won't speak for him but from what I've seen he won't be bothered by the little neigh Sayers here in the slightest.
Some talk about "Our money" as if the committee are taxing us, get a life! If I was a betting man I'd say that individual didn't give a penny. I have 3 grand kids and I am glad the tradition continues.

Hi, I'm 100% Dave from the above posts, I'm truly sorry if I have caused offence here. Truth be told I was dropped as a kid and touched by an angel.

Steve Cooke is our leader of the 'Stop the Liphook Carnival' society and he's gone too far. He even stopped LiDBA because of his fear of men in lycra.

I'll do my best to become a sensible resident from now on.

DAVE!!! You are OUT of the 'Stop the carnival' society!!!

- Interesting (20th Jan 2025  11:34:41)

Just wondering WHY anyone would want to stop the carnival . It’s run by volunteers doesn’t cost the community anything and is a great night out so what’s the problem. And to top that if they make some money it’s given back to local charities. What a magnificent thing for liphook thank you all the volunteers.

Genuine Steve Cooke here. Dianne, thank you very much for the information provided, that was all I was after.
