Traffic
- Charlotte Croft (12th Feb 2025  10:01:46)

Is it just me or do others feel that the morning traffic has greatly improved since the building of the back gate to Bohunt and the crossing on Portsmouth Road? I feel the last two weeks I have sailed through the village in minutes….

Re: Traffic
- Local (12th Feb 2025  13:25:51)

Well CHARLOTTE don’t know what time you went through but all this week it’s been horrendous queuing back to the coop headly road up to the roundabout by sainsburys the square continuous traffic all roads so how you avoided it you were lucky. The traffic has got miles worse in the last year. Quite a laugh really when HCC Highways when they did the square years ago said there was a possibility the square could be pedestrianised make it a lovely square for liphook ha ha . Ring roads to take the traffic away PLEASE .

School run traffic chaos in Liphook could be resolved by sticking to appropriate pedestrian crossings.
The slowdown is fed by drip-feed of crossings and bad signalling by all parties. Cross only at crossing places and in distinct groups. Use more pedestrian crossing lights / lolly men volunteers.
When pedestrians approach the road but their gaze is elsewhere (e.g. phone), traffic gets chaotic. When drivers fail to signal properly ahead of roundabouts: traffic gets chaotic. When drivers treat roundabouts as T-junction (drive over the centre of the circle) traffic gets chaotic.
If pedestrians would cross ONLY at specific spots as oppose to "near enough" to crossing places, if they crossed in bulk numbers: Traffic could flow satisfactorily. If drivers would obey the highway code then traffic will flow better.

Leaving this to good will is not working.
We need enforcement.
No money for bobbies, police is too busy ticking boxes, protecting terrorists and paedophiles, dispensing mental health treatment, scanning social media, and training for DEI.
How about lots more traffic (and pedestrian) cameras spread out all over? And make actual use the teeth already provided in existing law for rule violations?

Move the school to green site no houses near buy one road in one road out no junctions and around about so people dont have to bloke and dont have to use indicator oh sorry lot off people dont

Re: Traffic

Why is it that we get the same old posts about the square. Why is it that the people of this Parrish don’t want to stop the traffic through our square it’s been going on for years and nothing has been done. Other places with the same problem some not as bad as liphook ours is a conservation area but still nothing done. Don’t people want a traffic free square the hole reason the bypass as built what a laugh.

How about Liphook children go to Liphook schools and children from Haslemere, Petersfield etc go to Haslemere & Petersfield schools.

Also, did none of you go to school and learn how to spell?

All the cars parked along headley road don't help. nightmare coming home from work

Re: Traffic
- Local (16th Feb 2025  21:49:14)

No Al they stop the speeding traffic. You just have to be patient.

Re: Traffic
- Al (17th Feb 2025  12:29:55)

Well that is true but I think double yellows are coming soon just a little seed to plant

Re: Traffic
- Not a local (18th Feb 2025  09:51:00)

I disagree with Local. A lot of the time you need to speed up as you cannot see beyond the first car coming from the Co op. You see a car in the distance coming from The Square and think you can get past the car before that car reaches you, only to discovery there are another six cars Infront of the one you can see and need to accelerate as you need to get past more cars than first thought.

Pinch points may be better for traffic giving priority to traffic leaving The Square.

A lot of the cars have driveways but chose to park on the road.

Re: Traffic
- Local (18th Feb 2025  11:55:01)

Not a local. Yes you are correct it does take some looking to ascertain the amount of cars but if you’re in the correct position in the road and take your time it’s no problem. It’s the speeding cars coming from both ways that causes the problem they think they can charge by without stopping. If you drive around a city you have this problem all the time. Just look how many drivers abide by the 20 mph limits very few and the same with the 30 limit the speed of the traffic in liphook is the problem.

Re: Traffic
- Not a local (20th Feb 2025  09:14:49)

Local. Where is that good position to see all the cars parked in a line on the Headley Road? Today coming from the Co op I have slowed down for oncoming traffic and could see two cars parked. It was only when I have pulled out I can now see there are four cars parked in a line. Mean while the oncoming traffic has gone through the 20 limit and are accelerating to 30 miles an hour.

Re: Traffic
- Charlie (20th Feb 2025  11:06:27)

Totally agree with Not a Local. It is very difficult if not impossible to see how many cars are parked up beyond the first couple of cars. Parking on Headley Road in front of that line of houses so close to Liphook should not be allowed. Those houses have plenty of parking space in their drives.

Re: Traffic
- Not a local (3rd Mar 2025  21:59:24)

Does anybody know what happened to the two cars on Headley Road where the cars park on the road. It looks like one went up the back of the other car. quite a lot of damage to both.

Re: Traffic
- AF (4th Mar 2025  20:23:17)

Not a local. I think you'll find the two cars collided, its called a car crash.
Happy to help.

Re: Traffic
- Not a local (5th Mar 2025  08:17:04)

Thanks AF good observation. What I wondered was it due to the cars parked on the road. Looking at the amount of damage the cars parked on the road are not slowing down the traffic but causing a problem.

Re: Traffic
- rachel (5th Mar 2025  09:28:02)

I've definitely noticed London Road is quieter in the mornings, I couldn't work out what had happened.

Re: Traffic
- GB (5th Mar 2025  09:39:47)

The reason for the accident is the Dacia did not stop and hit the Toyota.. The reason for the accident was lack of concentration.

I have an other suggestion make Headley Road a 20 mph zone all the way from the square to past the infants schools, every where else has School zones , why not Liphook ?

This is probably cheaper than a ring road..

Re: Traffic
- er (5th Mar 2025  12:18:40)

It is worth mentioning that if you are in the process of overtaking parked cars and an incoming vehicle approaches you half way through, he has to give way to you, you are not on the wrong side of the road, you are on the correct side of the road (unless it's a divided carriageway which Headley Road isn't).

Plus the approaching cars should be driving cautiously as they're in the centre of a busy urban area with lots of schools nearby, the problem is the car oncoming cars won't give a jot about any of this and will often try to bully, force and speed their way through, they are totally in the wrong, not you, it's all about common sense, courtesy and safe driving, skills that too few motorists seem to possess.

There is no wrong side of the road if you are using it correctly, you are where you are supposed to be, overtaking parked cars is easy just requires a bit of confidence and give and take , get on with it and keep the traffic flowing!
