A3 litter
- C (18th Feb 2025 - 10:21:59)
Hi - does anyone have any intel on when they might next clean the A3? It's a hot mess with litter everywhere. I have checked the Guildford Borough Council website (https://www.guildford.gov.uk/article/26311/A3) but nothing on there. And they only clean between Ripley and Milford anyway.
It's depressing to look at!

Yes but where does it.come from a great deal from motorists thrown out of their windows. Or dumped by the road side. We are a terrible country for dumping our rubbish.

Agree Local. It's awful. Cannot understand the thinking behind throwing rubbish out of a car window rather than taking it to a bin.

Agreed! I think it's horrible and action needs to be taken to fine the people littering. If they can fine people for speeding, they can fine people more harshly on littering.

Yes, the small trash by the road comes from idiots in cars but a huge amount of the conspicuous stuff (buckets, trugs, plastic sheeting, polystyrene etc) is all blowing out of the back of builders pick-ups. I suggested to our MP quite a while ago that all these vehicles should cover their loads ( easy to catch on roadside cameras) but this did not go beyond a polite reply.

It's a matter of altered culture and local / national pride.

For several years now I have assisted Liphook in Bloom's litter pick and the area that I have chosen is the Bramshott junction on and off the A3.
The amount of litter there is formidable and, clearly a case of de-littering the car before going home.
What is very concerning is the number of empty bottles and cans, that contained alcoholic drinks, that have clearly been consumed by the driver on the journey home.
This clearly is the habit of one or two individuals as the containers are tossed onto the verges into a space of no more that two or three feet.
I am given to understand that the Griggs Green junction is similarly littered by those who, for what reason, would prefer not to put their bottles into the glass recycling box at home!
