Victoria Cross Holder In Liphook
The Gurkha Chautari, Nepalese Restaurant in Liphook hosted a dinner in honour of Capt Rambahadur Limbu VC, MVO on Tuesday 31 July 12. In preparation, the restaurant’s existing Nepalese theme was enhanced with Gurkha memorabilia including 2 silver Gurkha statuettes and Khukuris.
The 40 guests included a number of ex-servicemen, including Brigadier Duncan Green CBE MC late 10 GR and regular customers from Liphook and its surrounding area. On arrival, guests were welcomed with a glass of champagne, followed by a short address in which Major Mani Rai MBE (the owner) thanked Capt Limbu for attending and the guests for their support. In his speech Major Rai stated that Capt Limbu VC, MVO at 77 was the only surviving Gurkha Victoria Cross holder and that both his father and his father-in-law had served in the same Regiment - 10th Princess Mary’s Own Gurkha Rifles during their military career.
The address was followed by a sumptuous buffet supper. The dessert, arranged byMrs Sudha Rai, and shown on the menu as a 'surprise'. As it is the British Summer - took the form of a 'Mr Whippy' ice-cream van which served fresh ice-cream cones to all the guests.
The event was well supported and raised £140 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
