U3A Pop In
Liphook U3A held their annual “Pop In” last week at the Millenium Centre. This
is an “open house” where local retired folk can come along and learn what U3A
is all about. The hall was full of displays and demonstrations which illustrated the
many and varied activity groups within the Liphook branch. It also provides an ideal
opportunity for existing members to come along and learn more about some of the
other groups which may me be of interest.
From the time the doors opened there was a steady stream of people amongst
the various displays and a constant buzz of conversation. As usual, the free
refreshments and home made cakes were very popular. Certainly a chat over
a “cuppa” is the ideal way to glean information and judging by the number
of “cuppas” being quaffed, there must have been a lot of information being
exchanged!
A new feature this year was the introduction of a special get together of members
who had joined during the previous 12 months. They were asked for their first
impressions, their level of enjoyment, suggestions for possible new groups and any
ideas they may have for overall improvement of the branch. The result was quite
encouraging and enabled the committee to help see things through “newer eyes”.
Overall, the “Pop In” was a great success. Over twenty new members joined and
many of the individual groups reported high levels of interest in their activities.
