Fish and chip shop in Headley Road
- frankie derry (3rd Jul 2012 - 15:58:20)

Has anyone else noticed that the standard of fish and ships seems to be deteriorating under the new management?

I have been into the headley rd chippy twice, once when it was under the last management and once with the most recent management, both times I was very disappointed. I much prefer the one on station rd.

I used to always prefer Headley Road Chippy. (In Fact i used to work there!)

But since it has come under new management, we no longer go. The food has indeed dropped in standard and they have also treated their old long time staff badly. I understand many have now left!

Station Road is now the top chippy, and it is a shame that what was a lovely good value chip shop, has drop its standards and reputation!!

I was a regular customer under the old management. Have only been in once since the new management took over.
The quality had dropped to such a level that I will not be going back.

Helen .
Think you need to check your facts about the staff leaving !

On my last visit I didn't recognise any of the staff as regulars.

The general negative opinion seems to be unanimous so far, and unfortunately I am about to add to it.

Apart from the noticeable decline in taste and texture of the fish and chips themselves, it seems that the new managers don't understand how important customer relations are.

Recently I was told by a friend who had just been in the shop that an elderly gentleman complained to the manageress about the meagre portion of chips he was served. Rather than an apology and just adding a few chips to his order with good grace, he was given a sharp reply and sent away disgruntled.

I will be interested to see if anyone has a good word to say, but if not I hope the managers will read this and take it as a wake up call.

Went there for first time last November, after moving here, and found it to be very greasy and very unimpressive. Went again recently since under the new management and thought it had actually improved.

Have not tried the other chippy.

My Personal Opinion:

also i have to say,..i went in last week, and 2 members of staff, on the front counter, were members of staff, before managment changed!

Theres always been a fish and chip there in 30 odd year memory of Liphook and I've never been impressed with the food there.

Seafare in Bordon seems to be the only consistently decent portion of chips. The one in Lindford used to be good but went downhill a few years ago.

Hi,

The previous owners were very good, some the best fish and chips I've evere had. They had good customer service, quality fish, and new how to cook correctly. Due to ill health they sadly had to leave.

I agree with the earlier posts, and maybe the current management will not last long.

I have used the chippy in Station Road and I have to say I think it's superb. One of the best I have ever known.

My dad would recommend their home made fishcakes. He thought they were one of the best chip shop fishcakes he's had - they actually had some fish in and not just a load of potato. That was at half term after the new management.

I totally agree with your dad Carol. I never used to like fish cakes but their home made ones are yummy .I am now converted and will definatley be going back for more !!

I am not long in the area and went there in November and was not impressed, I found it very greasy. I have been there twice since under new management and have found the staff helpfull and friendly and the food was alot better than before.

We have found that the fish and chips are MUCH better with the new management. The new owners are friendly and helpful. They won an award when they had their previous fish and chip shop in Weymouth.
And they have continued to do Senior Citizen specials; the portions are generous and far less greasy!!

A friend of ours actually took her meal BACK last week and showed them the greasy sludge they had wrapped up for her. Needless to say she got all her money back but no apology forthcoming

Not eaten from there for years but if they are having quality problems the Federation of Fish Friars will come and advise , it could be just the oil blend for the water type in the area (re batter mix etc). Plus lots of training packages available. ....... but i am sure they know all this!

Re: Fish and chip shop in Headley Road
- ann (18th Jul 2012 - 20:40:53)

I had 2 large cod and chips last night and it was really very good, they do not have skin on there cod anymore and it is all cooked fresh for each customer which in my oppinion is fantastic, The new managers have only been there for a very short time and as i no starting a new business is really hard we should stop listening to people whom enjoy putting others down all the time.
The shop looks cleaner and they are very friendly.
by the way they do not wrap they bag which stops the fish being stuck and squashed.
I will be going back for my weekly cod

- Chloe (18th Jul 2012 - 23:29:10)

Had awful meals from there tonight. The chips were disgusting had to throw away most as were either green, uncooked or so greasy covered in what looked like a slime!!! I am going to take my business elsewhere next time. Such a shame fish and chip shops vary so much.

Thank you to the new Managers of the Fish and Chip Shop who kindly dealt with the order of 14 Fish & Chips for the Day Centre. They were enjoyed by all who had them their homemade fish cakes are good as well. Thanks to the Managers and good luck with your business. and welcome to Liphook

Has the one in Station Road changed hands in the last 3 years?, went there once then and never again worst I've ever had anywhere (apart from Fernhurst). The one in Headley Road was pretty bad before but my parents thought it had got better I have not been, always go to Weyhill has always been the best for me.
