Get wrapped up for winter
With summer almost over and the colder weather on its way now is the time to think about winter proofing homes and businesses says South East Water.
Wrapping up both internal and external pipes, repairing dripping taps, locating and checking the internal stop tap and making sure the loft insulation is adequate can help prevent the misery of a flooded home or business when temperatures plummet.
Steve Andrews, Head of Service Management at South East Water, said: “Even though the weather is still warm, now is the time to be heading up into the attic and out into the garden to check that everything is properly lagged and protected from freezing.
“We are also asking people to think about any elderly neighbours and check that they too are winter ready.”
The company has top tips on getting ready for winter on its website including a short film on how to insulate pipes at www.southeastwater.co.uk/winter. More general information can be found at metoffice.gov.uk/getreadyforwinter
