Concern over plans
Plans to spruce up the towns Square could lead to disruption and loss of business, according to the towns concerned traders.
Thats the over-riding reaction to news that the construction work, which is due to begin next month, according to a Hampshire County Council spokesman, will last for eight weeks.
Traders are worried that two months of roadworks will cause chaos in the centre of town and keep customers away.
The work has been organised as a joint venture by Hampshire County Council, East Hampshire District Council and Petersfield Town Council.
It aims to improve highway safety and enhance the environment for pedestrians and shoppers.
It will include the relaying and widening of some pavements around The Square, the narrowing of the High Street, and a number of other cosmetic changes.
