Wed at Hall
Making romantic history in Liphook are a couple who have achieved the honour of being the first couple to tie the knot in the Millennium Hall.
Married on New Year's Eve and recently returned from their honeymoon in the
Dominican Replublic are Irene and Russell Ellis, from The Avenue in Liphook,
who have recalled their 'fantastic wedding'.
The couple decided last summer that they wanted to wed in the village but
because they were both marrying for a second time, thought that a church
service 'wasn't really an option'.
'We approached the trustees of the Millennium Hall last summer,' said Mrs
Ellis. 'They said that they didn't have a licence, but would apply and we
would be the first to get married in the hall,' said a delighted Mrs Ellis, nee Boxall.
'We are so pleased we chose the Millennium Hall - it is an excellent venue
and the trustees couldn't have been more helpful. Everyone worked really
hard to make our day a success. We got married in the afternoon and a sit down reception for 75 followed by an evening event for another 80 people. It
was a big New Year's Eve party.'
